  • Foreign investors sold a net KRW5.2940 trillion of listed stocks and bought a net KRW36.0 billion of listed bonds in April 2022. The cumulative holdings of listed stocks came in at KRW696.2 trillion in total, 26.7% of total market capitalization. Meanwhile, the bond holdings totaled KRW223.2 trillion, representing 9.6% of total listed bonds.

  • The amount of asset-backed securities (ABS) issued in the first quarter 2022 came in at KRW10.9 trillion, down KRW2.8 trillion or 20.2% from KRW13.7 trillion a year earlier. Mortgage-backed securities (MBS) issuance by the Korea Housing Finance Corporation (KHFC) decreased KRW2.8 trillion from the same period a year ago, which drove total ABS issuance in the first three months downward. Meanwhile, financial companies increased their issuance by KRW0.2 trillion while issuance by non-financial companies fell KRW0.2 trillion year on year.

  • Corporate financing through debt and equity issues in March 2022 came in at KRW13.8606 trillion, down KRW1.6475 trillion from a month earlier. In addition, corporate financing through issuance of commercial paper (CP) and short-term electronic bond expanded KRW24.9550 trillion to KRW149.5194 trillion in March.

  • Foreign investors sold KRW4.8660 trillion of listed stocks and bought a net KRW279.0 billion of listed bonds in March 2022. The cumulative holdings of listed stocks came in at KRW725.5 trillion in total, 27.1% of total market capitalization. Meanwhile, the bond holdings totaled KRW222.5 trillion, representing 9.7% of total listed bonds.

  • Assets under management (AUM)—sum of fund assets and assets under discretionary management—by asset management companies came in at KRW1,322.2 trillion in total as of year-end 2021, up KRW124.4 trillion or 10.4% from the same period a year ago.

  • Corporate financing through debt and equity issues in February 2022 came in at KRW15.5081 trillion, down KRW12.0259 trillion from a month earlier. In addition, corporate financing through issuance of commercial paper (CP) and short-term electronic bond decreased KRW17.3205 trillion to KRW124.5644 trillion in February.

  • Securities companies reported preliminary net income of KRW9.0941 trillion in 2021, up KRW3.1968 trillion or 54.2% from the same period a year earlier. Return on equity (ROE) stood at 12.5% for 2021, 3.4%p higher than in the previous year.

  • Foreign investors sold KRW2.5800 trillion of listed stocks and bought a net KRW3.9500 trillion of listed bonds in February 2022. The cumulative holdings of listed stocks came in at KRW724.9 trillion in total, 28.0% of total market capitalization. Meanwhile, the bond holdings totaled KRW221.9 trillion, representing 9.7% of total listed bonds.

  • Corporate financing through debt and equity issues in January 2022 came in at KRW27.5340 trillion, up KRW17.4281 trillion from a month earlier. By contrast, corporate financing through issuance of commercial paper (CP) and short-term electronic bond decreased by KRW33.2026 trillion to KRW141.8849 trillion in January.
